Stricken by the loss of their two leading national stallions, Razeen (by Northern Dancer) and Placerville (Mr Prospector), within the space of a week, Thoroughbred breeders of India are reeling. (See exclusive reporting on this situation here.) But racehorse breeders have some consolation in their leading sire of juveniles from last season.

While traveling abroad and performing surgery for the international Smile Train organization, Dr RS Hussain has reported that the young sire Rebuttal (2002 Mr Greeley x Reboot, by Rubiano) was the leading 2yo sire in the country of 2010 in India.

The 9yo bay stallion is the property of and heads the stud of Nirmal Singh, who is a wealthy businessman and politician in India.

In a recent email, Dr Hussain noted that Rebuttal’s “first foals ran last year, and he is the leading sire of 2-year-olds in India. Nirmal Singh bred all his mares to him and so he is riding a flying carpet as everyone wants to own one by Rebuttal.”
