Supercharger (1995 b m by AP Indy x Get Lucky, by Mr Prospector) is one of the élite broodmares of the day. Already the dam of 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (Maria’s Mon), the mare is also dam of the unbeaten Brethren (Distorted Humor), who won the Sam F Davis Stakes on Saturday at Tampa Bay.

Those two colts are not her first foals, however. Indeed, they are the 16-year-old producer’s fourth and fifth foals, and she had a rocky time as a broodmare till the birth of Super Saver in 2007. Since then, no major hiccups.

The record:

2000: Barren.
2001: Barren.
2002: Guided Missle, dk b c, by Boundary. Unraced. ($120,000, 2003 keesep yrlg)
2003: Hedge Fund, b g, by Maria’s Mon. Raced 4 yrs, 57 starts, 5 wins, $160,699.
2004: Barren.
2005: Quickest, f, by Forest Wildcat. Unraced. ($40,000, 2007 keejan 2yo)
2006: Barren.
2007: SUPER SAVER, b c, by Maria’s Mon. Raced 2 yrs, 10 starts, 3 wins, $1,889,766. Won Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Jockey Club S; 2nd Arkansas Derby; 3rd Tampa Bay Derby.
2008: BRETHREN, b c , by Distorted Humor. Unbeaten in 3 starts at 2 and 3.
At 3: Won Sam F Davis S.
2009: Lisa T, b f, by Awesome Again.
2010: Superfection, b c, by Medaglia d’Oro.

Supercharger, bred by Ogden Mills Phipps in Kentucky, raced eight times in one season, with three victories and $91,109 in earnings. At the 2006 Keeneland November sale, Phipps sold the mare for $160,000, carrying Super Saver.
