Per reports from Twitter and Racing Post, the Kentucky-based stallion Mingun has been sold to stand next year at York Stud in Denmark.
The 10-year-old Mingun (b h, by A.P. Indy x Miesque, by Nureyev) is a half-brother to international star stallion Kingmambo and went to stud at the same operation, Lane’s End Farm outside Versailles, Ky. Mingun stood his sixth covering season in 2010 at a fee of $5,000.
Bred and raced by the Niarchos family, Mingun won the G3 Meld Stakes at Leopardstown, as well as a listed stakes.
As a sire, however, Mingun’s only stakes winner to date is the 3yo Gunner, winner of the Governor’s Stakes at Indiana Downs.
Racing Post quoted Alexander Elsass, director of York Stud, saying that “Mingun has been sold privately through Tiranga Bloodstock, UK and Scandinavian Raceweb, Denmark, to a syndicate of Danish horse owners. He will stand with us in 2011 and beyond, but his stud fee is yet to be decided.”
