Behera (1986 mare by Mill Reef x Borushka, by Bustino)

A G1 winner in France who also came second in the Arc, Behera had a serious colic and was put down at Blythe Park Stud on Aug. 4 at age 24.

Bred and raced by the Aga Khan, Behera bred 11 foals for him in Ireland, including G2 Prix Hubert de Chaudenay winner Behkara, G3 winner Bayrika, listed stakes winner Behkiyra, and high-class jumper Behrajan.

The Aga Khan Studs sold Behera at age 16 to Bob Russell of Blythe Park Stud for €60,000 at Goffs in November 2002. Behera produced three foals for Russell’s Blythe Park Stud near Tamworth, Staffordshire. Her final foal is a 2-year-old colt by Halling named Behero.

Behera, a winner in three of seven starts, developed into a very high-class performer at 3, winning the G3 Prix Penelope and the G1 Prix Saint-Alary. She was ranked as having produced her best form when second to Carroll House in the 1989 Prix de l’Arc deTriomphe.
