Freshman sire Bluegrass Cat marked some territory at historic Keeneland racecourse in Lexington when first-time starter Bluegrass Phenom won a maiden special going four and a half furlongs.

The filly ran the distance out of the Keeneland 2yo chute (around part of the final bend) in :52.03 over the terminally fast Polytrack surface.

Bluegrass Phenom broke alertly and scooted to the lead, set fractions of :22.45 and :45.73, and won the race by a length and a half from Tiz My Time, by freshman sire Sharp Humor.

Both Bluegrass Cat and Sharp Humor stand at WinStar Farm outside Lexington. Bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds from the Rubiano mare Reboot, Bluegrass Phenom sold to Bill Hayes for $75,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale.
