Another freshman of 2010 became the sire of a winner with his debut starter when the Adena Springs stallion Giacomo’s 2-year-old Blushing Sis won the second race at Manor Downs. Going 4 1/2 furlongs, the filly took the lead soon after the start and won by eight lengths in :52 4/5.
Blushing Sis it out of the Carson City mare Three City Sisters, a 6-year-old mare who was unraced. The juvenile filly was bred in Texas by Jeanne Stasny Blossom Racing Stable and sold for $5,500 at the 2009 Texas August yearling sale.
Bred and raced by Jerry and Ann Moss, Giacomo won the 2005 Kentucky Derby over divisional champion Afleet Alex. Other good races for Giacomo at the premium level included a second in the Hollywood Futurity at 2 and a third in the Preakness Stakes.
Adena Springs acquired an interest in Giacomo as a stallion, and the gray son of Horse of the Year Holy Bull went to stud with three victories and earnings of more than $2.5 million. The gray is a half-brother to Tiago (Pleasant Tap). Adena also acquired a stallion interest in the latter, who is a beautifully constructed horse who twice won at G1 level. Giacomo stands for $7,500 live foal at Adena Springs near Paris, Kentucky.
