European Group 1 winner Catchascatchcan foaled a filly by Mr. Greeley on Feb. 9 at Castleton Lyons Farm outside Lexington.
The filly by Mr. Greeley, an internationally prominent son of Gone West, is the sixth offspring from the English-bred daughter of Pursuit of Love and the Mill Reef mare Catawba.
Unbeaten in four starts on the courses of Europe, Catchascatchcan won the 1998 Yorkshire Oaks and the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks.
Lyons Demesne purchased Catchascatchcan for $4.7 million at the Keeneland November sale in 2000 when she was carrying her first foal on a cover to the top international sire Danzig.
The foal was born in 2001 and sold for $1.5 million to Coolmore at the 2002 Keeneland September yearling auction and later was named Antonius Pius. Racing for Susan Magnier and Michael Tabor, Antonius Pius won the Group 2 Railway Stakes in his first season of racing and gained his greatest glory with placings the next season. The colt was second in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile and third in the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes and Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Antonius Pius stands at Coolmore in Ireland for €5,000, and his first foals will race in 2009.
Catchascatchcan is booked to the Roberto stallion Dynaformer.
