Frank was wondering your initial thoughts on All-American shuttling from Australia to America. If I’m not mistaken he’s the first sire to back shuttle from Australia to America. Could you see this as the beginning of a trend or more of a special case?
Thought it was a surprising move. Not unexpected from the sources. Darby Dan will try things, and Messara is always on the lookout for a new angle to make a stallion. Interesting. Will report back any insights from John Phillips of Darby Dan.
Frank,
When will you begin going around to the stallion farms to look at these guys? Today I went to Spendthrift and Lane’s End and got a good look at Quality Road, Line of David, and Warrior’s Reward. I’m looking forward to your analysis.
In the next week or so, as the activity at the November sale eases off, I will be working my way through the farms with new stallions. There are, apparently, a few more still in the works. But almost none have set stud fees. Hmmmm.
would like your input on new stallions conformation
I’ll be making notes and comments on each of the stallions in coming days. I will both post the commentaries individually and link to them from the “New Stallions” page so they can be found conveniently.
Thanks.
Hi Frank: Happy New Year!!!!
In relation to KY stallions, although Big Brown is not new this year, how were his weanlings at the Nov. sale?
Have a good one,
DB
Hi Donna, And a Happy New Year to you up in frosty New York!
The Big Brown weaners were pretty good. They are rather like the early foals by his sire Boundary, who got nice, quality young horses with scope and balance. The Big Browns had at least adequate size and bone, good heads, and a nice look to them. They seemed to bring pretty fair money in this market, although there is no big multiple for them on the retiring stud fee ($60k). The market is not strong enough for the supply.

When will you finish seeing the new stallions for this year?
I’ve seen all of them, Stephanie. Posting notes on them is a matter of finding time among all the other things clamoring for attention. Ah! the joys of spring!
Thank You! Enjoy the sunhine!
